This year marks the 12th anniversary of the Darrens Dash Hill race.  This tough event takes place in the village of Longtown (HR2 0LE), Herefordshire, close to the border with Wales.

 

An event T-shirt for the first 100 entrants.

 

What hasn't changed

·         A friendly event with fantastic scenery

·         Category prizes (fell race categories are used)

·         Delicious free tea and cakes for runners at the finish.

·         Longtown Mountain Rescue Team will again be providing the Mountain Safety cover.

·         A Bouncy Castle, Children races and refreshments and the ever popular raffle will be on offer to keep the whole family amused. 

 

The route

Hatterall Ridge dominates the skyline and marks the border between England and Wales.  Runners will run from the village and climb through farmland and Open Country to gain the ridge.  They will then cross into Wales and start a steady climb to the route’s summit marked at a Triangulation Pillar (Trig Point) at 552 m.  This marks the start of the swift descent along Offa’s Dyke Path until a sharp left turn and a few rock steps brings the runner to the Rhiw and the return leg that re-traces the ascent route.

 

Entry restrictions

Minimum age 16.  Runners with dogs welcome, but they must be kept on the lead at all times.

Childrens Races

Different courses for Pre-school age, Infants, Lower Juniors, Upper Juniors and Key Stage 3.  Entry on the day.

There are now 3 weeks to go before the 12th and last Darrens Dash Hill Race on Saturday 17th June. The tough course is just under 6 miles and starts in Longtown, Herefordshire, and then winds it’s way up and up and then down through beautiful welsh border country. On the route you will enjoy views to Llanthony Abbey and beyond as well as the achievement of climbing 1,200 ft!

Entries on the day will be accepted but t shirts will be allocated to all pre-entrants first. Pre-enter if you don’t want to miss out on a t-shirt.


Children are not forgotten as there will be children’s races from pre-school to Key Stage 3, a bouncy castle and access to a range of play equipment. Children will also receive race mementoes, treats and water at the finish of their races. All children events are enter on the day.
